Fresh Cut Eucalyptus

Available year round, this plant has 150 varieties.  Blue glum, Spiral and Narrow-Leaved Black Peppermint, Silver Dollar and many more.

To harden off (give a good drink), rinse stems, then cut underwater and place in hydrating solution.  Remove from solution and place in water with flower food.  Eucalyptus will last 20 days or longer if properly treated.

Eucalyptus has a very strong fragrance and in many parts of the country, it is used as a earth-friendly insect repellent.  When using this in floral arrangements, remember the strong smell may overpower other fragrant flowers.

Drying Instructions:  Eucalyptus dries beautifully.  To air dry, bind a group of stems together and hang upside down in a well-ventilated, dry place.  You can also glycerin dry these plants by cutting the bottom end of the branch before placing in glycerin.  This allows the solution to be taken up into the plant more readily. Glycerin can be purchased from a chemist or drug-supply wholesaler.  Normally it calls for one part glycerin to two or three parts near boiling water.
